A short daily routine in the Range plus some real time in an aim trainer will move your aim further than months of grinding ranked cold. What follows is a routine you can run in about half an hour, built from drills that are known to carry over into live games.
Warming Up Before Ranked Queue
Jumping straight into ranked with cold hands is a great way to throw your first game. Your reactions are slow, your flicks feel rusty, and you spend the first ten minutes playing catch-up. Ten or fifteen minutes of warm-up fixes most of that, and it's the cheapest rank you'll ever gain.
Order matters more than people think. Start with your hands, move to the Range, then finish with deathmatch. Going straight into deathmatch cold usually just drills sloppy aim into your muscle memory, because you're fighting your own hand instead of warming it up.
A quick set of wrist and finger stretches goes first. Nothing fancy, just the kind of loosening-up you'd do before any repetitive hand work. It gets the blood moving, and it's a decent long-term habit for long sessions too.
Load the Practice Range and wake your flicks up against bots. Two solid picks: the Eliminate 50 challenge with strafe turned on (the bots don't despawn, so you can go at your own pace and actually work on technique), or the Hard challenge run twice if you want faster, snappier reps. The little flying drones near the back wall are underrated for flicks. They spawn at different distances and respawn fast, so there's barely any downtime, and TenZ is one of the pros known to warm up on them.
Then one or two deathmatches, tops. Grab a one-tap gun like the Guardian or the Sheriff to force yourself to aim at heads, or just run your main weapon if you'd rather warm up exactly what you plan to play. The trap here is treating deathmatch like it's ranked. Crouch-spraying everyone to pad your score feels good in the moment, but you're drilling the exact habits that lose gunfights later. Warm up the way you want to play.

Don't drag it out. Past about twenty minutes your hand starts to tighten, and you can walk into queue worse than if you'd done nothing at all. Get loose, then go.
Aim Lab and Kovaak's Routines for Valorant
Two aim trainers do most of the heavy lifting for Valorant players. Aim Lab is free. Kovaak's runs around $20 to $30 and goes deeper. Aim Lab is enough for the large majority of people, and Kovaak's is what you reach for once you want a more serious, community-driven routine.
Sort out your sensitivity first, because practicing on the wrong sens is mostly wasted effort. eDPI is just your mouse DPI times your in-game sensitivity, so 800 DPI at 0.35 in-game works out to 280 eDPI. Most Valorant pros sit somewhere between 200 and 450 eDPI, with the average landing around 280. Kovaak's goes a layer deeper. The community there organizes everything around Voltaic benchmarks, which split aim into clean buckets. Static clicking is targets that hold still, so it's pure flick speed and precision. Dynamic clicking adds movement, closer to a real fight. Target switching is moving fast between several targets, which trains reaction and re-aiming. Tracking is following a mover with your crosshair, the hold-it-steady skill. For Valorant you'll spend most of your time in clicking and target switching, since the game is mostly horizontal aim and click-timing rather than long holds on a moving target.
A few scenario names are worth searching for directly. For static clicking, "1w4ts Voltaic" (one wall, targets that hold still) and "Pokeball" build raw flick speed. For dynamic clicking, "Pasu Voltaic" uses targets that drift diagonally, which feels a lot closer to a real duel than static dots do. "Floating Heads" tasks put small, head-sized targets at head height, so they map onto Valorant about as directly as anything in a trainer can. One rule of thumb that comes up again and again from coaches: chase accuracy over speed on the static stuff. Hitting 85 to 95 percent of your shots beats racing for a bigger score and whiffing half of them, and the speed shows up on its own once the accuracy is locked in.
Keep a lid on the volume. Twenty to thirty minutes in a trainer, then go play the actual game. Trainers build raw mechanics, but they can't teach you angles, timing, or game sense, and grinding scenarios for hours tends to leave your hand tight and your live aim stale. Practicing Crosshair Placement in the Range
Here's the thing about Valorant that takes a while to click. Crosshair placement beats raw aim more often than not. A huge share of your duels get decided before you fire a shot, because your crosshair is already sitting where a head is about to appear. The Range is where you build that habit until it's automatic, and it's free, sitting right there in the menu.
Head height, always. While you rotate or move between spots, keep your crosshair at head level on the next corner rather than letting it droop to the floor in front of you. There's a handy trick for this that pros lean on constantly: the crates and boxes scattered around the maps sit right at head height for every agent in the game. Line your aim up with the top edge of a box and you're more or less at head level, no guesswork. Most placement mistakes happen between fights, not during them, when the crosshair drifts down while you run from point to point.
Aim at edges, not centers. When you pre-aim a doorway, don't put your crosshair in the middle of it. A head shows up at the edge first, so rest your aim on the spot where the head will actually pop into view. Pre-aiming isn't mind-reading. Clear one angle at a time. The classic blunder is watching two angles at once and losing to both of them. If you play Sage, wall off your own sightline and peek bots one at a time, so they're not always sitting in the same predictable spot. It's the closest the Range ever gets to a real peek with real unknowns. The loop to run on every single duel is simple, and worth memorizing: head level while moving, next threat at first contact, stop-then-shoot, one angle, and a hold that matches the peek you expect.
Flick Shots Versus Tracking Drills
Valorant is a click-timing game at its core. A single headshot can drop a full-health player, so a kill often comes down to clicking in the right instant rather than holding your aim on someone as they move. That tilts the whole balance toward flicking and away from tracking, and it's why a pure tracking god from another game can still struggle here.
A flick is one quick correction from where your crosshair sits to where the target is, followed by a click. Because decent placement keeps you close to the target already, most of your flicks in this game are tiny. A small nudge, not a wild swipe across the screen. Think of a typical duel where your crosshair is already at head height on the corner. The enemy peeks, and you move your aim a centimeter to land on their head. Placement-first deathmatch is the bridge between the two worlds. Run a deathmatch where you hold yourself to four rules: no running around with your crosshair low, clear angles one at a time, prefer taps and bursts over sprays, and after every kill or death ask the one question that matters. Was the crosshair at head level before contact? That single question is basically the whole game in one sentence. Ask it enough times and placement starts to fix itself without you even thinking about it.
Review one lost duel. After a session, pull up the replay and pick a single duel you lost. Nine times out of ten the problem wasn't your raw aim at all. It was your crosshair sitting somewhere silly when the peek happened, or your feet still moving when you fired. Spot the pattern, carry the fix into the next session, and let it go. You don't need to review everything. One duel a day adds up fast over a few weeks, and it's a lot less miserable than rewatching a whole loss.
Consistency beats volume, and it's not close. Twenty minutes a day, most days, will outperform a single three-hour binge once a week. Aim is a habit, and habits form through regular reps, not through marathon sessions that leave you sore and tilted. This is the part most people get wrong. They train hard for two days, burn out, take a week off, and wonder why nothing stuck. Slow and steady is boring advice for a reason.
Don't score-chase. Pushing your Aim Lab numbers up can quietly teach you to value speed over accuracy, or to flick in a way that doesn't match how you actually play in a match. Treat the scores as a loose guide rather than the goal. The goal is clean aim in a live game, and the scoreboard there is the only one that really counts.
